Stonesfield slate roofing
The stone slates are arranged in courses of diminishing size and are traditionally fixed by using wooden pegs driven through a hole near the top of the slate until it is firm. The pegged slates are then hung over the batten. Swept valleys require the most skilled craftsmanship in their construction, involving the careful shaping and fixing of wedge shaped slates in the valley which modern roofers often omit.
This traditional method of slate roofing is still very popular as it combines excellent protection for your property with aesthetic beauty. But the craft of stone slating requires a great deal of skill and expertise and should be carried out only by those who are experts in this line of work.
